Facelifts Without the Fuss?
NEW YORK CITY, NY – A potential plastic surgery patient recently inquired about less invasive alternatives to having a facelift. So, what is the best procedure that works like a facelift with minimum fuss?
The answer is simple. It’s important to remember why we do facelifts. Non-invasive procedures will give you a lot of improvement, but you can not get the same results that a facelift would give you. So when considering your options, you have to have realistic expectations.
Depending on a person’s anatomy, Botox, Restylane, and fillers such as Juvederm and Radiesse, and Thermage are all safe options that can give you great results. In our practice in New York City, we do these procedures all the time.

Did you know that Botox injections can actually sculpture and improve the shape of the face? The most common example of this is the “chemical brow lift.”
The shape and position of the eyebrows is determined by two sets of muscles pulling in opposite directions. Some muscles lift the brows (the elevators). Botox injections pull the brows down (the depressors). Botox injections in just the right spots can relax and weaken the brow depressors. The brow elevators can then act without opposition and the brows glide up. When done artistically, this creates a fresher, younger, more alert look to the face. This also gives a cleaner look to the eyelids.
Another example of facial reshaping with Botox is at the corners of the mouth. Small amounts of correctly placed Botox weaken the muscles that pull the corners of the mouth down. This allows the muscles (the smile muscles) to lift the corners of the mouth for a younger, happier look in lower face.

The two top minimally invasive procedures are botox (3.8 million) and chemical peel (1 million). Since 2000, the number of Botox injections has increased by 388%.

Scarless Midface Lift in New York City
There is a lot of talk these days about scarless cosmetic procedures; unfortunately some of them are not very effective. On the other hand, the scarless midface lift which we have been doing for several years truly leaves no visible scar and can achieve dramatic rejuvenation. The midface lift is done through a one inch incision inside the mouth at the upper gum line and a one inch incision in the temple well behind the hairline; that is why there are no visible scars. The tissues of the cheek are repositioned in an upward direction. We do the midlift in our accredited office operating room in New York City under light anesthesia on an outpatient basis. The procedure takes about one hour. You may look presentable after one week, but many women take two weeks off before they return to work and to an active social life.
The wonderful effect of the midface lift is that it corrects the flat hollow cheek that comes with age and it restores the round, full, high cheekbone of youth. The midface lift also lifts up the corners of the mouth and improves the look of the lower eyelids.
The midface lift is not for everyone. It does not correct jowls very well and it does not improve the neck. It corrects the flat hollow cheek. If you have significant jowling and a double chin, then you are probably a better candidate for other procedures such as a short scar facelift.
We also improve cheek contour with injectable fillers such as Radiesse, but the results with fillers are more subtle and they are not permanent. The advantage of fillers is that there is no down time.
